Year of the 28!

Last post I reflected on the last year where I have been, where I hope to go.  Anyways, today is HOW WE CELEBRATEDSmileSmile

Dinner with my lovely family on my birthday.  Conner Station Eatery and Pub was delightful.  Tasty bar food (I highly recommend the fried pickles!!  YUM YUM!), lovely company and PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN CAKE!!!  Sooo good!

Trent and I got up EARLY on Friday and dropped off our sweet little Kirby at my parent in law’s house and off to Chicago we went!!  We had a lovely drive and used this AMAZING free app Waze!  Seriously download it.  Anyways, we made it safely to Chicago and started our adventure at the Lincoln Park Zoo…536291_561369734934_154301040_30999751_573992731_n
The Lincoln Park Zoo is actually free (you do have to pay for parking, but it still a great deal)  The zoo is really big and there is a nature preserve and conservatory.  We got there about 40 minutes before the zoo was officially open but we were able to walk around the zoo, just not all of the animals were out yet.  It was so quiet and peaceful.  There were people running through the zoo, SERIOUSLY why did I not bring my running shoes?!?!  That would be the BEST run ever!! The buildings were beautiful and the park had tons of trees.  We really loved it…the field trip kiddos were a bit overwhelming but you’ll have that…it was a zoo for goodness sake!!!

We walked around the zoo and the nature preserve.  It was a really lovely day.  The sun was shining and it was warm but not too warm.  Thankfully the bat and amphibian exhibit was packed so we walked in and walked right back out!  SHEWWWW!!!Smile

We then went into the Lincoln Park Conservatory it was BEAUTIFUL!!!  Tons of flowers and plants…and again FREE!!!  I am just a sucker for a great deal!

We then left the zoo and headed to navy pier.  We were sure it wasn’t too far…I am pretty sure now it was 34932084329 miles away.  Regardless we walked along the beach and had a lovely time chatting and seeing the sights.

Navy Pier was TASTY!  We went to Harry Caray Tavern my goodness it was the BEST veggie burger I have ever eaten! SO GOOD!  Trent loved his french onion soup...BEST EVER as well:)  Navy Pier has lots of restaurants, shops, small rides and places to take excursions out on the water.  We walked around the pier and then headed back to the car…but not before we documented the pier….it’s what we doSmile

We then went to dinner at Gino’s East.  THE MOST AMAZING PIZZA EVERRRR!  Promise me you will go when you head to the windy city!  DELISH!!

The view from our room.  We stayed at the Hilton Chicago and they upgraded our room AND gave us free internet access.  We were impressed with their hospitalitySmile

After HP ended we hit the city one last time for our trip up into Willis Tower!  While not free, it only costs $17 a piece, so make sure you do this…well if you want, I am not going to force you into anything!
