it is your birthday.

403522_576206237464_1387905093_nSo I'm taking a break from updating the last 5 months...after 5 months, what's a few more days?! I want to wish this girl a happy 30th birthday. Jennifer "Riggsy" Riggs has reached the age as children we felt was so old. Clearly as an adult I feel so differently about that. No way is 30 old! At this point 92 seems like maybe whispers of being old will arise. Anyways, Jennifer and I have been friends since the beginning of time…or at least second grade.  We are the annoying girls who have conversations without talking, fight like sisters and can go months without seeing each other months but immediately pick back up as if no time has gone by.  She really is great.  Really.

Now I'm sure like most people you are thinking you have the best best friend, I'm sorry to inform you, you are incorrect...Jen is the kind of friend who answers her phone late at night when you need someone to talk to, will go on shopping trips and we know they will be productive and awesome based upon our parking space, always up for a cookout and a layout, sends the most hilarious random texts about the weird things that happen throughout her day, will send flowers when your grandma dies, always up for ice cream (2 spoons), can tell you any actors name and what they are from and who they are sleeping with, has the greatest "favorite part" of songs (i.e. the format and that trombone),  can do a ten minute plank. I know that last one shocked you. I could go on and on about the greatness that is Jen but I think you get the idea. She is awesome, you are jealous.

In all seriousness, happy birthday, riggsy! I hope this year brings you only positive, wonderful things! You deserve it.  Duh.

P.S. she also gave the best maid of honor speech, always knows the perfect band, tv show, song that you will love love love, and she can do a 10 minute plank.  yes, I know I already said that, but it is incredible and this is my blog, so I will do what I want.  She is just amazing.  Ok! Enough gushing, you are jealous enough.

it’s a….BABY PENGUIN!

So it’s been almost 5 months since my last post but our little bundle of joy arrived February 8th at 2:18pm.  It was one heck of a ride that’s for sure…but to answer my question from months and months ago…it is 110% worth it.  An all consuming love was the product of 42 hours of labor.  He is the greatest thing I have ever done and for sure the hardest I have worked for anything. Here is, of course, a list of the happenings of this crazy life….
1.  This kid has the BEST smile ever.  Seriously.  Look at this kid.

2.  This boy for sure made me really see how much I love his daddy.  Trent has taken to his new role nicely.  Marshall from the get go was head over heals for his papa, this feeling is completely mutual.  It is so adorable.  We noticed about 3 weeks old, Marshall, would try so hard to stay awake so they could play.   Now, they are inseparable and mommy is only needed to eat or rock him to sleep. Trent for sure gets the biggest laughs and smiles from our sweet little m:)

3.  The changes that happen to your body…or at least mine has been fascinating.  I have been very patient with this whole weight losing thing.  We are now almost 5 months out and I just have 8 more pounds to lose.  I haven’t been trying to lose the weight, thank you breast feeding and giving birth to an 8 lb 6 oz bundle of joy!  I have just been letting nature do it’s thing.  I need to eat a LOT to produce milk and it is amazing how hungry I always am!  (sorry no photo of ol girl)
4.  I’ve said before, I will say it again and again.  Trent and I have been blessed with an amazing support system.  Lots of visitors, help, meals, texts which have all made this adjustment to parenthood “easy”.  Clearly, easy is a relative term when your lives have been turned upside down in the most incredible way.
5.  Shhh don’t tell anyone, and I am not bragging…this is going to seem like bragging…but our baby is a SLEEPER!!!!!!!!! He has been since birth.  We did however always open the blinds during the day and turn down the lights and tv off at night from the start.  I don’t know if that helped or not but for the last 3 months has slept between 9-12 hours a night.  Per the doctor I would wake him up in the middle of the night to eat, once the doctor said I could let him sleep at 7 weeks old, he has slept through the night most every night.   It is GLORIOUS and we are SOOO thankful!!!

6.  Additionally on the sleep thing…for the first few months he slept in his swing.  Judge if you will, but we were very rested first time parents.  Just sayin.
7.  Speaking of sleep he has been out for a while and I am getting tired myself!  More updating next post…if you are lucky it will be this week and not 5 months from now.  Either way, life is amazing.  We are so very blessed and so very thankful.
